Do you know how your heart works?

The heart is a muscular organ that has four chambers, known as the atria (the upper ones) and the ventricles (the lower ones). In both cases, there is the right and the left. The atrium and ventricle on each side are connected through valves that regulate the flow of blood and allow the heart to fulfill its function of pumping it.

The heart has an electrical system that regulates and synchronizes the heartbeat so that it can pump blood efficiently. In the upper part of the right atrium there is a specialized group of cells that is responsible for the electrical control of the heart, as if it were a natural pacemaker. Both atria and ventricles communicate through electrical impulses, which we know as a heartbeat.
The number of heartbeats that occur in one minute is called the "heart rate." Heart rate is the interval between heartbeats. Under normal conditions, this rhythm is between 60 and 100 beats per minute. If the rhythm is greater than this number, we speak of a tachycardia, and if it is less, of a bradycardia.

In summary, hypertension is a chronic medical condition that requires ongoing management and monitoring. With the right treatment plan, including lifestyle modifications and medications, patients with hypertension can effectively manage their condition and reduce their risk of serious health complications.

Lifestyle modifications that can help manage hypertension include maintaining a healthy weight, eating a balanced diet low in sodium, engaging in regular physical activity, avoiding tobacco and excessive alcohol use, and managing stress. Medications commonly used to treat hypertension include diuretics, ACE inhibitors, beta-blockers, and calcium channel blockers. The type and dosage of medication prescribed will depend on the individual patient's needs.
